Reimagining the learning commons.
Reimagining the learning commons.
With tall ceilings, natural light, and an open layout, Rochelle High School’s library had great bones but lacked the flexibility, technology, acoustics, and visibility needed for today’s learning environments. Outdated finishes, rows of stacks, and a dated computer lab limited opportunities for collaboration and independent study.
The renovation transforms the library into a flexible learning commons with furniture-defined zones for group collaboration, quiet reading, and individual study. The former computer lab becomes a content-creation studio and two private meeting rooms, supporting multimedia projects, presentations, and student collaboration.
A centralized circulation desk provides staff with clear sightlines throughout the space.
A contemporary palette of soft blue-grays, crisp whites, and school-purple accents complements sculptural LED lighting, maximized natural light, and colorful acoustic treatments. Recycled PET acoustic panels, carbon-neutral carpet tiles, and energy-efficient LED lighting reinforce the project’s sustainability goals.
The result is a bright, welcoming, and adaptable learning environment that supports reading, research, technology, and collaboration while giving students and staff a library designed for the way they learn and work today.
