DEERFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS 109
Caruso Middle School
DEERFIELD, ILLINOIS
A Modern Stage for Student and Community Performances.
The outdated theater at Caruso Middle School was no longer meeting the needs of either the school or the local Park District. GreenAssociates brought both visions together to deliver a transformative auditorium renovation and a strategic backstage addition—creating a space designed for performance, education, and community use.
The reimagined stage now features new curtains, flooring, lighting, AV systems, and a catwalk for enhanced lighting control. A fully equipped control room replaces the outdated mechanical-room viewing window, allowing both students and staff to manage productions with ease.
Fixed risers and folding chairs were replaced with a sloped floor and comfortable upholstered seating, offering better sightlines and level access to the stage. Acoustic reflector and absorption panels fine-tune the theater’s sound for optimal performance across all user groups.
Previously lacking any backstage support, the new addition includes dressing rooms, restrooms, a sprinkler/utility room, equipment storage, and a dedicated loading area—dramatically improving function and flow. A new connection corridor links the band room to the stage, with enhanced green room and access areas that support seamless music department integration.
