The utilitarian theater at Caruso Middle School desperately needed updating to better serve the needs of both Caruso’s students and the local Park District.

Combining both groups’ vision, GreenAssociates’ reimagined auditorium and backstage addition took shape.

Stage improvements include new curtains, flooring, lighting, AV systems, and a catwalk for additional stage lighting. The new control room can now be used by staff and students, replacing the old viewing window in a mechanical room.

All finishes were updated and the theater’s folding chairs and fixed floor risers and were replaced with upholstered seating and a sloping floor providing level access to the stage.  New auditorium house acoustic absorbing and reflector panels now tune the house for optimal performance by the various user groups.

The existing stage had no backstage support rooms. GreenAssociates designed an addition providing the much-needed dressing rooms, restrooms, sprinkler/utility room, equipment storage along with a backstage loading area.

A new connection corridor to the band room and other improvements between the music suite to the stage all serve to provide their use as green rooms and smoother access for the music department activities.
