Benjamin Middle School

WEST CHICAGO, ILLINOIS

Future-Ready Science Labs Designed for Discovery and Innovation.

Benjamin Middle School recently completed a full renovation of its three science labs, adjacent prep rooms, and a new small-group instructional space—transforming outdated facilities into modern, flexible environments designed to support hands-on STEM learning.

Each lab was completely reimagined, with spaces stripped to the studs and reconfigured for better sightlines, improved efficiency, and enhanced collaboration. New perimeter casework with epoxy countertops, integrated student sinks, and gas service now support a wide range of experiments. At the center of each lab, mobile teacher carts, power cord reels, a hanging track system, and movable student tables offer unmatched flexibility for reconfigurable lab setups.

To support varied teaching styles and dynamic learning, each room features a designated teaching wall, oversized marker boards, ceiling-mounted projectors, and large interactive screens on sliding rails for maximum visibility and engagement.

A centrally located prep room includes a shared pass-through fume hood—streamlining experiment setup and enabling student interaction with lab materials in a safe, supervised setting. Between labs, a new small-group instructional room provides a quiet, adaptable space for personalized learning and student support.

Distinctive color palettes and finishes were used to give each lab its own identity, while new grid ceilings, dimmable LED lighting, and resilient sheet flooring—complete with meter markings—bring function and flair to every corner. Upgraded mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems ensure these science spaces are built to perform for years to come.
