Redesigning classrooms to inspire collaboration, creativity, and comfort.
Lake Forest Elementary School District 67 partnered with GreenAssociates to reimagine its learning spaces, aiming to create environments that better support modern teaching methods and student needs.
The process began with an in-depth study of existing classrooms, including school tours with principals, educational adequacy surveys, and collaborative workshops with teachers, students, and administrators. Furniture presentations and prototypes were tested in pilot classrooms, giving users a hands-on role in shaping the final design.
The result was a flexible furniture standard—mobile, adaptable pieces that encourage student collaboration, communication, and choice. Classrooms were further enhanced with energy-efficient, dimmable LED lighting to improve comfort and reduce operating costs.
A thoughtful approach to color played a key role in the redesign. Warmer hues like red, orange, and yellow were used in younger-grade classrooms to promote energy and engagement, while cooler tones like blue and violet created a calm, focused atmosphere for older students.
GreenAssociates’ comprehensive design standards now guide classroom renovations districtwide, providing a consistent, future-ready learning environment for years to come.
