Streator High School

Streator Township High School District 40

Streator, Illinois

The Streator High School auditorium was a project of the Works Progress Administration constructed in 1936 during the Great Depression.

The original seating was only 17” wide and the auditorium had no air conditioning or fresh air supply. The last major lighting upgrade was done in the 60s and the audio-visual tech is over 20 years old.

The district chose to preserve the historic exterior of the auditorium and update the interior performance space to the 21st century.

All of the auditorium’s infrastructure (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, rigging, lighting, and audio-visual) has been replaced and the finishes renewed in keeping with the original Art Deco details.
