Park Ridge Library

Park Ridge, Illinois

The iconic Park Ridge Library is prominently sited at the convergence of West Touhy, South Prospect, and Summit Avenues in northwest suburban Chicago. Built in 1958 and expanded in 1977, the Georgian style, three story building richly compliments its surroundings.

After 50 years of service, the library’s various building systems began to require attention. The steep slope slate roof was of particular concern. Because it appeared as part of the building’s façade, the Library Board insisted its repair keep with existing aesthetics. With this directive, GreenAssociates went to work.

After investigating sources of failure, determining structural soundness, and creating several design alternatives for the board’s consideration, a new slate roof and ‘cool roof’ compliant white thermoplastic roof system – complete with fall protection measures – was meticulously detailed and installed.

As a finishing touch, the library’s cupola received a new copper roof and finial.
