Running Track

Projects

Morris High School

Morris Community High School District 35

Morris, Illinois

Morris High School had a six lane running track with a deteriorating edge condition that only allowed four of the lanes to be safely used.

Besides track practice, all track events had to be held off campus.  The high school District desired a track and field facility capable of hosting official meets as well as sectionals.  They partnered with Elementary District 54 to renovate the existing high school facility.

The proportions of the existing track were altered to allow eight lanes to be built without requiring the bleachers or stadium lighting to be relocated.  New shot put, discus, long jump, high jump, and pole vault events were constructed as well.

Besides the wet weather, the primary construction challenge was modifying and protecting the existing sprinkler and drainage system of the award-winning turf field.
