Significantly expanding Millburn School required integrating new and existing while ensuring that the school could remain in operation during construction.
The design places a new barrel vaulted entrance as the physical and visual center of the composite building. This, with the new administrative space, acts as a juncture between old and new. The barrel vault motif reappears in the ceiling of the new centrally located Library which has natural light from the adjacent courtyard. The program doubled the number of classrooms and added science, band, and art facilities.
