PROJECTS - ELEMENTARY

Additions and Renovations

Greeley Elementary School

The Winnetka Public Schools District 36

Winnetka, Illinois

The dual-phase work at Greeley School is an excellent example of construction activity coordination. At the completion of the project, the building had been partially demolished, expanded and extensively renovated.

Phase I demolition eliminated an educationally obsolete portion of the school and allowed for the addition of a new classroom wing. The new wing contains a Learning Resource Center, two classrooms, restrooms, a computer lab and a new cafeteria. Building circulation as well as ADA accessibility is vastly improved by the new addition’s elevator that completes the school’s circulation loop and brings the building into compliance.

Phase II moves the school’s entrance to a more conducive corner of the building that provides visitors with a view of the courtyard after passing through a secure entry point. The administrative offices were relocated near the new entrance to further improve the ability of visitors to conduct their business outside the academic area.
