This summer will be one of nonstop activity inside Evanston Township High School. New spaces are being constructed within its walls that will enhance student’s academic activities as well as their career planning and group studies skills. Termed the Student Success Center, the project will improve the use and flow of existing spaces and departmental functions.
The 16,000 SF renovated space will consolidate several related activities that are now spread throughout the building. To assist in the district’s ongoing commitment of providing 21st century learning environments for their students, GreenAssociates planned a reworking and modernization of an existing gathering area for students to use for small group study, homework and socializing.
The project has been bid and award recommendations will be made to the school board at their March 17th meeting. Work that will require a floor to ceiling, wall to wall gutting of the space will begin in early June with asbestos abatement. July will see the bulk of the interior work begun and will include new surfaces and ceilings along with rebuilt classrooms and new equipment and furnishings. Work is scheduled for completion by the end of August
The new area will feature soft seating and carpeted floors, a cloud shaped multi-layered drop-in ceiling grid, glass hall dividers and support offices on its opposite ends. 60 inch flat screen monitors that are coordinated with an auditorium sound system and area lighting controls will provide a flexible learning space that can accommodate instruction, presentation and socialization activities.
Five enclosed study centers will be rebuilt along one side of the space and four small group meeting areas will be arranged near the middle. Two computer ‘bars’ will be added to the new space.
