Washburne School first opened its doors in 1967 and withstood the next four decades of curriculum changes and state mandates without alteration. In 2007, the voters elected to expand and modify the school. The required work occured in two phases. Phase 1 work included the addition of a new three-station gymnasium. The new gym can be configured to support athletic events as well as instruction activities. Support spaces for the new gym include two locker rooms, equipment storage, mechanical room, kinetic and cardio classrooms. |
During Phase 2 the two existing gyms were remodeled to house four new science classrooms and practice areas for either band or orchestra. GreenAssociates enclosed the second story terrace and created a much larger administrative office space at the front of the school. The two-story glass atrium now brings visitors to the offices and links the north and south wings. Former administrative office space was renovated into specialized areas. The entry to the learning center was moved to be more central to the school's circulation. Wildflowers now bloom on the school's new green roofs. |
