SOUTH MIDDLE SCHOOL

Arlington Heights School District 25

South Middle School, recently completed for Arlington Heights School District 25, is designed to accommodate 900 students grouped into six house designs. The facility replaces an aging building that did not permit the flexibility and varying spaces needed for the middle school curriculum.

A three-story classroom wing provides rooms for general classes, encore classes, flexible resource areas, home arts, industrial tech, and visual art programs.

The central section houses school administration, student support offices, the learning center and computer labs.

The third section of the building provides physical education gyms, multi-purpose room with kitchen and stage facilities, and the music program.

One important design feature is the separation of the large building masses to help scale down the 140,000 s.f. facility to the neighborhood.
