HERITAGE MIDDLE SCHOOL

South Berwyn School District 100

The district-wide space needs were met by re-grading all schools to K-6 and building a new 7-8 middle school. Lack of available real estate in the community required that it be added beside an existing K-6 school.

The design reflects the adjacent residential archi-tecture with sloped, shingled roofs with surface applied gutters, masonry bays, and residentially scaled double-hung windows.

Horizontal banding to de-emphasize building height and landscaping blend the building into the neighborhood.

Each floor level serves one grade, with classrooms, science rooms and special services located in an efficient corridor loop.  Each grade of 350 students is sub-divided into 3 groups to promote the “house” concept.
